League Rules for Next Year (I know...)

Okay, I know we've talked about this before, but now we have a forum to truly talk about it and make a decision for next year. (I know it's a long way away, but I need everybody to be on the same page.

Why am I bringing this back up? Because Chris, in a VERY intelligent move, picked up the Bengals Defense and cut the Ravens Defense this week. Yes, I said it. Cut the RAVENS, and picked up the Bengals!! The Bengals are 0-5, while the Ravens, having only lost one game, are truly destroying teams. So why is this a VERY cunning move? I'll tell ya...

Because the Bengals are getting destroyed in games, they're getting about 6 or 7 kick off returns a game. With an average of a 25 yard kickoff return, they get that 10 point bonus EVERY TIME! They're averaging close to 30 points for D/STs every week.

So I say all that to say this... I think we have 2 choices for next year:

A) Leave the kickoff or punt return yard bonus alone. Teams still get 10 points for reaching 100 kickoff or punt return yards. But we add negative points for teams that allow over 300 total yards of offense or more then 30 points in a game. Right now, we dont' lose points for teams that get murdered and I think we should.

B) Get rid of the kickoff or punt return yard bonus. That way, we dont' have to give negative points, but points would be more balanced and make good defenses worth more than bad defenses. A team like the Bengals would instead be averaging 20 points a week, which would be lower than the 27 point average that the Ravens have.

AGAIN, THIS IS FOR NEXT YEAR'S LEAGUE!! Right now, the goal is to take advantage of the current system and I think Chris made a very smart move. The Defenses to have in this league are the ones that lose... A LOT.... How about them Rams??

What do you guys think?

There are many more problems with the scoring system than the kickoff bonus. In no way can a bonus for yards count more than a touchdown. If you need this explained to you, you should not be playing.

I proposed a comprehensive scoring change before and am posting it to this blog. Sorry James, but I have to stand up against your campaign for Office of the Commissioner next year. You like to change the rules too much after the game starts.

G - Field Goals 3 points
Plus 2 points for a FG of 50+ Yds
FL - Fumble Lost, Including ST plays -2 points
IKRTD - Individual Kick Return TD 6 points
IKRYd - Individual Kick Return Yards 0+ IKRYds = 1 point for every 15 IKRYds

IPRTD - Individual Punt Return TD 6 points
IPRYd - Individual Punt Return Yards 0+ IPRYds = 1 point for every 15 IPRYds

Pa2P - Passing Two-point Conversion 2 points
PaInt - Passing Interception -2 points
PaTD - Passing TD 6 points
PaYd - Passing Yards 0+ PaYds = 1 point for every 25 PaYds
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 300+ PaYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 400+ PaYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 500+ PaYd
Re2P - Receiving Two-point Conversion 2 points
ReTD - Receiving TD 6 points
ReYd - Receiving Yards 0+ ReYds = 1 point for every 10 ReYds
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 100+ ReYd
Plus a 5 point bonus @ 200+ ReYd

KRYd - Kick Return Yards (ID/ST/DST) 0+ KRYds = 1 point for every 15 KRYds

PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored 0 - 6 PA = 6 points
7 - 13 PA = 4 points
14 - 20 PA = 2 points
PRTD - Punt Return TD (ID/ST/DST) 6 points
PRYd - Punt Return Yards (ID/ST/DST) 0+ PRYds = 1 point for every 15 PRYds

SACK - Sack 2 points
STY - Safety 2 points
YDS - Yards Allowed 0 - 49 YDSs = 12 points
50 - 99 YDSs = 10 points
100 - 149 YDSs = 6 points
150 - 199 YDSs = 4 points
200 - 249 YDSs = 2 points

There are some additional bonuses that I would like to throw in too, but I don't know if we can do it, such as:

5 point bonus for a QB with 4 TDs
5 point bonus for RB/WR/TE with 3 TDs
1 point bonus for every player on a winning team.

Maybe a Kick/Punt TD should be worth more as they are nearly impossible to get.

I am also in support of AK as the commissioner for life as I'd like to follow the advise a beautiful woman gave me last year:

"Just blame AK for everything, that's a better option in life."

Okay, I'm not really about changing the ENTIRE system. That's not really necessary. I think the point system is fine the way it is... I just think Defensive scoring needs to be tweaked. And again, I'm talking about NEXT YEAR! (How many times do I have to say this?)

Definitely DON'T want to be commissioner next year. I'm just offering ideas to help with scoring.. Hero does a fine job... Besides, I can't trust myself to not run off with the money.

I've never been in a league that offers a special bonus for multiple TDs. It's stupid. If you get 3 TDs, then the 18 points is enough. You dont' need a bonus on top of that.

One thing that you completely missed on. There needs to be a yardage bonus for TDs. If LT runs 50 yards for a TD while Tim Hightower runs 1 yard for a TD, should they both get the same 6 points? Not at all. Should be a 3 point bonus for TDs between 20 and 49 yards and a 6 point bonus for TDs greater than 50 yards. This is for both the QB and the RB or WR.

I play in A LOT of football leagues... I do a lot of research and talk to a lot of people about scoring systems. I'm just sayin...

This is not a complete change, just a few tweeks here and there on the offensive side and a complete overhaul of the DST.

And no one cares what you see in other leagues, this is our league and We Da Best, right? Other leagues should be looking to copy us!

How is it stupid to give a bonus for scoring actual points but it is okay to give a huge bonus for passing an abitrary number for yards? I have to point out the fact that a QB/RB/WR/TE/K/DST does not help his team win unless they score. AND YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!! Again, the 95 yard rusher with a TD undeniably has a better day than the WR with 102 yards and no TDs. Chris, that's just way it is and there is no debate about it. Why do I need to continuously explain this to you and James?

The idea of an additional bonus on plays over 50 yrds is interesting. I don't hate it, I don't love it. I think you already are rewarded as you score at least 11 points on one play already. But that's one I would not argue too much with.

And James, you sound like Joe Biden saying that he would not be interested in the VP position.
